Certain candy makes my throat swell shut - anyone else?

Wrigley's spearmint gum often makes my throat feel like its swollen shut for about 10 seconds.


Other gums/candies have done this too.


I have no known allergies.





Anyone ever have this happen?


Any idea what the problem ingredient is?

yes!! i have had this happen and cannot remember which gum it is, but i feel like im gonna die. weird huh?
Reply:I'd talk to your doctor and find out if there's something that perhaps you might be allergic to....and I would avoid those gums/candies if they do.
Reply:yes. there may be nuts or similar ingredients in the candy. Perhaps you have a peanut allergy and are unaware of it. I know for a fact it can make it feel like your throat is closing.
Reply:You may be allergic to it or you may be sensitive to it. An allergist once told me I was not allergic to something, and when I tried to argue that I was, He said "no you are not allergic, you have sensitivities to it." The symptoms were the same, so go figure.

Reply:it makes sense. certian wintergreen and peppermints oils can give a numming sensation causing you to feel like you cant swallow or that its harder than it should be.
