Can a person root mint?

If so, what is the easiest way to root it? I have spearmint growing my garden and, since it is the end of the season and we will not be here for the next one, I was hoping that I could root mint. Help!

it might be really difficult for you to personally root mint... however the plant will surely do it by itself... follow these easy steps:





grab stem... pinch... put in water...wait 2 -3 days....





its great and fun ... but be gentle with the new roots...
Reply:Yes; you can take cuttings and root them, or you can just dig up clumps. Unless you live in a terribly cold area (like Minnesota!) you almost can't kill the stuff! I've seen mint come up after bitterly cold Colorado winters where temps were routinely well below zero. I'd opt for the clumps; get some of the plant along with soil, and put it in a plastic pot. Fill any excess space with dirt, and keep it moist until you're ready to put it in your yard. If you are moving to a warmer area, be sure to put the mint in an area where you can contain it - in the southern states, it spreads like wildfire. Enjoy!

Reply:Great answers!! Mint is entirely invasive. Once established it is almost impossible to get rid of. The roots go on forever. It will root in water, you can lay stems still attached to the mother plant on the ground and they will root. (I just yanked out rooting stems of Chocolate mint yesterday -- want some?) or you can put cuttings in dirt with or without rooting hormone. You can also save the seeds for spring planting.

Reply:Mint is crazy so you can just dig it up put it in a pot and take it where ever you want and it will grow as long as you keep it well watered
Reply:Yes. Just dig as many plants as you want and put hem in pots. Keep the soil moist. Plant outdoors in the Spring. Here in Alaska the mint overwinters and returns in the Spring. Chives do, too.
Reply:pull it up and burn it. then go buy some spearmint bubble gum it lasts longer.
