Chewing a Spearmint Lifesaver in the dark...do you really see sparks?

Don't think they've done this one on mythbusters yet- it would be a pretty short experiment. Come to think of it- why don't I just go buy some????- haha...

but you know- the Mentos in Diet Coke did make for an explosive good time!

Chewing a Spearmint Lifesaver in the dark...do you really see sparks?
Yes - the sparks are caused by the sugar crystals in an effect known as triboluminesence, and the wintergreen amplifies it.
Reply:Yes you do, its actually pretty fun because I love those spearmint lifesavers. We did it in 6th grade for a lab. We broke up into groups and a bunch of us at a time went into the dark room and watched each others. It was cool. but you have to stay in the dark room for five minutes before you do it otherwise you eyes don't adjust to the darkness and you don't see the spark.
Reply:umm yeah i heard that it glows in the dark or i think i read it somewhere it probobly does
Reply:yea, but it has to be a certain kind. I dunno which it is. but yes it does, I've done it b4
Reply:It worked for me! But it's not a highly reoccuring thing.
Reply:yes you REALLY see sparks it has to be really dark but you do see them
