WHEN A RECIPE CALLS FOR mint...DOES IT MEAN PEPPERMINT OR SPEARMINT ???

If it just says mint its just plain mint, peppermint and spearmint are to other variations of mint. You can find fresh mint in the produce department of most grocery stores while spearmint and peppermint are usually sold as dry spices unless you go to a gourmet food store which carry most herbs and spices in both fresh and dry forms.Such places as Sid Wainer %26amp; Son out of New Bedford,MA carries just about any spice or gourmet food products you could think of.All that stuff on the cooking channel like the Balsamic vinegars and Foie Gras they carry.Along with fresh Mint,Peppermint and Spearmint they carry something called chocolate mint which i am still yet to find a use for lol.

WHEN A RECIPE CALLS FOR mint...DOES IT MEAN PEPPERMINT OR SPEARMINT ???
it means mint as in the plant of mint with green edgey leaves
Reply:Peppermint
Reply:For booze - It usually means mint as in the herb usually used in Mojitos. Otherwise it would say something like "creme de menthe" for a recipe. Baking, it is usually peppermint extract.
Reply:that would be the mit leaf not peppermit or spearmint
Reply:Usually Peppermint.
Reply:Mint refers to the herb....it doesn't mean peppermint or spearmint. Just go to the store and buy some fresh mint or ask the grocer to show you what "mint" is.
Reply:YES and stop yelling at US ..!
Reply:i would have to say peppermint
Reply:It means mint mint, like the herb. If it was peppermint, it would specifically call for peppermint or peppermint extract.
Reply:No I would guess it would be the green leaf mint which is a herb!
Reply:i would use your preference. i personally perfer peppermint.
Reply:mint leaves
Reply:Most likely it woud be peppemint. You get the extract in your spice aisle. However it would really depend on the recipe.

What is yours being used for?

It may mean fresh mint, I grow in my garden, it is great to use in cooking many dishes.
Reply:Peppermint but it depends on your taste and what you like.
Reply:Mint? Peppermint? Spearmint?

They are 3 different herbs. If they asked for mint. They mean mint. If they wanted peppermint or spearmint. They would say peppermint or spearmint.
